Glassy boat wake extravaganza!

About 9:00 this morning - glassy water out of marine park. Raced out to catch a couple rides off of one of the Foss tugs coming in. Then turned back toward marine to find the Island Caper whale watching boat heading out to Hale Passage. I highly recommend synching your paddling trips with their schedule - easily three foot and very steep waves that are still good a hundred yards off the stern. I'm pretty sure I could even catch them on my 14'downwind SUP. About four 12.5mph rides later I ran out of gas and headed toward a tug coming in towing a barge. Managed to get on the third wave directy off the stern of the barge and had a constant 9.8mph free ride for about 3/4 of a mile - just weaving back and forth across the wave with barely a need for a paddle stroke. All this in the course of about 20 min. Not a bad for a “flatwater” session.

Below is a pretty cool link for live ship traffic. As you can see, Island Caper is north of Patos right now. I'm hoping to keep an eye on her to see if I can get a few more rides when she comes back to port!
