I've got a contact at Sandy Point and he said he had some 4 footers this afternoon. I'm going out there at 9:00 tomorrow morning. I'll see some of you intrepid souls there. We were thinging of doing just down winders with short car trips. Larry B

Sandy Point wasn't anything special, at least not today. It has potential because there is an adequate fetch from both the SW and NW directions. We just need to go see it when the conditions are more lively. We did paddle into the Marina and see all the yachts tied up to nice houses. The place we go to lacks parking. We could maybe fit three or four cars into the spot. The verdict is still pending.

My lunch break - time for a quick post: We put in at Neptune Beach and paddled South into the Sandy Point Shores inlet. Then we turned downwind and downcurrent back. There was some swell out of the West, probably left over from the heavy winds in the night. Nice gently sloping sandy beaches. The waves all turn toward the beach. So if there's a good southerly you'll probably want to get offshore a bit. LB says there are three beach access spots. They are not easy to spot because the neighbors don't encourage useage. We drove into the marina inlet area and LB found a launch that is inside the inlet waterway. If it's really big, this would be a sheltered launch.
We paddled with a guy named Zack on a twogood in pretty good shape. He's had some great downwinders there and confirms that the wide open fetch gets big waveheight in the right conditions. He also has a story about getting charged by a sea lion (complete with a repair invoice from Sterling Kayaks). So we had a 1 hr paddle and a 1 hr coffee with stories. Zack's place has a clear view so we can get wave reports if he's at home.
For best waves you need deep water with long fetch. But I think we need some way to compare these different runs. In the back of my mind I think that if I'm in trouble on our Chuckanut run I have options. If I'm in trouble in the Straights of Georgia I don't. It's just a feeling …
We just need to send some rubber duckies out there and see where they wash up. LB? Was this your idea? LG? this is like walking distance from your place, right?
