Looks like you have B'ham braggin' rights for the year Dean, but only when you're north of the border. Nice race!

I had a great race. My average speed point to point shows 7.38mph. The overall first place finisher averaged 9.16mph. Just to illustrate that they battle hard up front, Sean Rice got the hot spot, but was bested at the end by the Mocke brothers and his own brother. A lot of oxygen was burnt by those front four.
Huge crowd. Start line was hash due to so many boats and some runners from the south. Then add a couple of safety boat wakes.
Once we made the turn it was fast running most of the way. My favorite line (way West) worked great up to the big turning. In the past the wind would shift due to the big rock wall at the Northwest end of the fjord. Not so much today. I had to claw my way back to the crowd lining up for the finish.
Really amazing to see so many folks from so many places. Connected with a few friends I haven't seen since a couple years ago. Excellent food (lasagna), great bling (I won a T-shirt), classic battles and some high drama. Warren the Bruce massacred the old barnacle division. Dangit, kinda cool to see the title go to the homeboy. As they say, “he's hell when he's well”. Some of the 'hamsters went home with droopy tails today. Deano seemed happy with getting to the podium in that crowd of rowdies.
This is just one of those 'spectacle races' with all the heavy players that show up and the beauty of the country.

I haven't produced a race report for awhile but I felt compelled to speak up about the CSC. First of all, Bob Putnam and his crew did a fantastic job of organizing this race. I found no errors. They made the day special by adding a little bag of 'Cheezies' in with our bag of goods. Even the shirts rocked. Quite a few Bellingham paddlers showed up. The start was extremely well organized with no one trying to get a jump on everyone else. All that morning we had heard that there would be flat conditions - then the wind did arrive. It wasn't a lot but by the time we were half way to the finish, the rides were good. After turning at the point and heading for the mouth of the river, the scene became quite chaotic. This was not a race for anyone less than expert. I had taken the inside route while Reivers did the opposite. He came in ahead of me but I think I had more fun. The wind was at my back all the way to the river and I got my longest rides in that last half mile before the river's mouth. I feel that there should be some recognition for Sharon Scoggins and Anna Swetish. They were both in tandems, Anna with Tom, and Sharon with Steve. This was not good conditions for tandems. These women had intolerable partners and were probably in some of the worst conditions they had ever paddled in. They prevailed gloriously. My finish was horrible but this race will still be memorable for me.
