Auto Paint Shop for Ski?
Dan Mayhew

About a month ago, someone at one of our paddles recommended an auto shop to get paint to match a surfski. Can you remind me of the shop?

Kai Wa'a sent me the formula to match my yellow Flex and I want to have the paint mixed up.

Thanks

Wesco Auto Body on Kentucky does the paint match. Cost about $135 per pint. They do the paint matches for Sterling.

You’re adding paint (i.e. weight)? Duncan sands his paint off.

Just between you and me…what is the kind of paint to use/request?

Or you might try Stocktons. They carry a wide variety and may mix a smaller amount.

But if he wants it to paint his car to match his boat to match his shirt, hat, and life jacket, he’s going to need a larger quantity.

Don’t forget to paint your paddle blades!

There's an auto body paint store at the top of Iowa St across from the car lots.

The paint can has a button on the bottom which infuses the hardner. It will harder in the can in about 24 hrs or so which could allow a couple coats if needed.
I think they can add color, I just needed clear.

Dan, I really think you should leave the look of your ski alone…Kinda Rouge(ish) that way. Like Dennis's Vega.
But hey, perhaps painting your car, clothing, paddle, etc to match. There's an idea!

Thanks Kim and Dennis for helpful answers, and a special thanks to all the other goobers for their color commentary.

I used to paint cars and the paint that Wesco will probably sell you is a 2 part very stinky paint that is not good to breath or even get on your skin. Getting a car painting place to paint it may cost $1000. Another person that has the equipment to do that is Sterling kayaks. I would try them
