Branksome Chine to Milford on Sea 22+ km - If there’s a strong westerly blowing then Bournemouth is always good for downwinding. The large horseshoe bay in Dorset attracts a relatively big crowd who usually start off around the Branksome area on the east facing shore. From here it’s a fast run towards Milford on Sea. During the middle part of the run you’re well off shore. Plan for and judge your safety accordingly.
Old Harry Race - Studland - Friars Cliff Beach 20 km Downwindable.com
Isle of Portland (Portland Bill is southern tip) runs starting or ending in Portland Harbour at the north end of the isle have to go through one of the gaps between the 4 breakwaters protecting Portland Harbour
Portland to Burton Bradstock is maybe a couple of kms shorter than to West Bay unless you paddle a good ways south initially as shown in Downwindfun description
Keyhaven (Hurst Spit) - Lymington (TannersLane) 10 km video
Surf
Hayling Island - with the right tide and swell, long waves that peel and roll not quite breaking along the length of the sandbar (excellent wave for foilers)
Calmer Paddles (when conditions are milder)
Keyhaven - the Needles seakayak video notice the caution about avoiding concentrated swell and exposure to stronger current, but had they been so inclined it looks like there were surfable waves between some of the Needles.
Budleigh Salterton - Lyme Regis (Lyme Bay Run) 31 km Downwindable.com
Hayling to Bracklesham (Hants/West Sussex) - Watch out for current around Chichester Harbour mouth, and a few sand banks that kick up some heavy chop/surf.

From Robin Kaye on Facebook: “…Easy launch at Eastbourne (slightly sheltered) big swell in the bay and then when you get to Hastings you need to go past the pier and tuck in behind the old broken harbour wall, where the fishing boats are on the beach, to avoid the worst of the beach break (size of which depends on tides really ) ….crazy race from Weymouth to Lulworth Cove….It’s some of the best paddling I have ever had. Always check everything though as the start at Eastbourne is pretty benign but the swell in the middle of the bay (and wind) can be quite big. Done it a few times though and it’s certainly a good one in a SW.. enjoy”
