Lipp Units

John Rybczyk
04/04/14 #15538

A fortuitous juxtaposition of winds (moderate and steady out of the south), tides (strong ebb), and sun (there was some) made for a great lunch time paddle on the bay. Just outside the buoy there were some amazingly long long rides, given the moderate nature of the conditions, with some rides lasting almost as long as one Lipp* . The problem with trying to maximizing Lipps is that sometimes you don’t paddle when you should because you want to see how long you can go without paddling, and then you lose another ride you could have picked up with just a few strokes. Life’s tough my friends. Back to work.

*Lipp : A unit of measurement in which one Lipp = a thirty second ride/run without paddling. One Lipp is considered outstanding and even half a Lipp is pretty damn fun. Two Lipps = 1 PHAT Lipp , the holy grail of paddling.

It's true, LG and I were out just before Rybczyk. With that fast ebb our water speed was great, but looking at the shore we seemed to be crawling. We got enough Lipp Units to put our heart rate down to resting bpm. It was fortitudinous and juxtalicious.

Two Lipp = a tiptoe, aka a Tiny Tim. We'll be out today on the OC-4 shooting for a tiptoe!
