All,
Veronica and here voyageur team of 6 women finished the Yukon River Quest about two hours ago.
They looked great coming across the finish line and had a steady run.
They are third over-all (behind two well trained men's voyageur teams), and more than 7 hours ahead of the former women's voyageur record.
It took 6 women to improve on Heather Nelson's women's record for the course. They shaved a bit over 3 hours from the women's record for the course.
The lake was calm with light waves from the S-SW. There was rain, but the team avoided it. My guess is that the Teslin was running fast, the Pelly average, and the Stewart a bit high. There were headwinds near the finish at Dawson.
I'm pretty proud of Veronica for taking this race on and working with a crew of friends in a boat that she did not know well. I'm even happier that they finished and had a consistent performance. Veronica obviously worked very hard and is now resting.
