Sausage Pull 2014

Mercer Island race report

At first i was worried about damaging my reputation since I would be riding in Duncan's paddle-wagon with Dean, Paul, Peter M. and Mickey. But after we got going I found out these guys are all cupcakes and I was probably the nasty boy in the bus. Ride down was uneventful. Except tour guide Paul is amazing. He knows every corner and coffee shop in south Seattle. A definate sign of mis-spent youth.

Duncan and Peter wisely did short course. Light air from North so our start was on little runner-waves as we headed down lake. Several of us were caught napping at the start. I think Nick Cryder was fastest long course and Kevin O was second. Don't know about short course. Except Duncan looked well rested sitting in his lawn chair with binoculars by the time I got done. MG chased me, I chased Dean and Dean chased Paul. I was marking those two ok until we got to the bridge on the North of the island. Someone must have insulted their dignity because the tore off in a paddle rage for the rest of the race and I lost 'em. It was kind of fun on the North end with rebound and stacked lumps. I worked past a couple of rowers. MG was doing ok early, but like some of us struggled with the long headwind grind up the back side of the island.

Right after the race we all piled back in the van and “re-greased” ourselves at Dick's. Didn't stick for the awards, except Dean was staying down there with family. So maybe he'll claim our awards. Or tell them we cheated and shouldn't get them anyway. Dick's was fun. It's an old fashioned burger joint. Food is fast, hot and tasty. Definately not what Hilde has on my diet plan. She probably won't kiss me for a week if she finds out what I ate.

It was great to nap in the back while Duncan drove. Except some rowdy started telling dirty limerics and singing risqué songs on the way back.

Pretty cool.
