Yukon River Quest...

Edoh's Voyageur team, Coureur des Bayou, is leading the '07 Quest by a growing margin over Team Kisseynew. Kisseynew is the reigning Voyageur champs from last year when they finished second overall.

Right now, at 6:10 a.m. Friday morning, Edoh and the boys are probably getting loosened up, fueled up and packed up to start the third and final leg out of Kirkman Creek.

Veronica and Tom are doing incredibly well also, coming into CP1 at Carmacks in 16th place overall out of a record 85 teams. They're the leading mixed canoe team with Derek Crook and his partner just two minutes back at CP1. The updates are slow coming, but they're likely more than half way to CP2 at Kirkman Creek by now.

Our friend and frequent Bellingham visitor from the Bay Area, Ken Brunton, racing a single kayak in his first 'Quest attempt, scratched at Carmacks, CP1. He'd gotten there in 25 hours and change. No idea on the story there, but in my opinion, getting back on the river out of CP1 is the crux for most racers. When you wake up after a hard couple hundred miles and only a few hours sleep, the body is just going, “What the hell…?$*#@!” Strong effort, Ken.

GO EDOH, VERONICA AND TOM!!!

Veronica and Tom have climbed to 14th overall, are still in first place in the mixed canoe class, and have opened the gap between them and Derek Crook / Pauline Frost to 41 minutes. (Looks like they had a 19 minute gap at Carmacks, not 2 minutes as I'd written before.)

Hell Yeah!

No new updates on the leaders at this point (7:23 a.m.), other than that at Fort Selkirk the top four teams were Voyageur canoes.

Looking at the current race status, looks like Tom & Veronica may be the fastest 2 person canoe team overall at this point. Some of the times for teams just below them don't quite add up, but there are no other canoe tandem teams, mixed, all men, or all women, that show as leaving Kirtman except for them, right now.

Go Tom & Veronica!

Re: Yukon River Quest… Edo & Liam are in in the Voyageur! 1st place overall!

Their team Coureur des Bayou finished at 3:45pm, and in 41:15:00! That's about 1.5 hours faster than last years top Voyageur team, Kisseynew, which is in 2nd but not finished yet!

Tom & Vernonica are far out in front in the tandem canoe mixed class, and 13th overall when leaving Kirtman, and now on the home stretch! Go Whatcom Paddlers!
