Re: False Creek Race Results?????

It was wet.
It was windy.
It was really hard work!

We had the best turnout of surfskis so far for the PNWORCA series. Ian Mackenzie popped up to remind us just how fast he can be while looking like he's out for an easy Sunday paddle. Kirk latched onto Pete and Mike in the double and refused to let go…there might have been a tow rope involved. I was up to my usual shenanigans and tried to get the race started before Kirk could get off the beach and when that failed I purposely dropped behind the pack (nothing to do with my heart and lungs exploding, really) in the hopes that they would get lost in English Bay. Lucky for me there was a sailboat race going on and the lead pack confused the red inflatable mark from the sailboat race (not a mark of the course) with the permanent red buoy that marks the entrance to False Creek (which was a mark of the course) so I was able to get back in front of Eric.

Race results are here: Jericho Listing

Disturbing to my inner harmony:

MG & Pete were not far enough behind Ian.
Kirk was not far enough behind anybody.
Eric W is becoming like the energizer bunny.
Roger L was supposed to be in a rebuilding year.
Shane didn't beat Ian (after smoking me so bad at Jerico.)

Satisfying:

Good to see Brian B working his way to the top of the pack.
Glad that somebody besides me got lost during a race.

It's true - it was windy, but the home-baked goods at the finish helped warm things up, yes?

You'd have thought that I could manage to find my way back to the start on an out-and-back course without getting lost, wouldn't you? I mean, I thought I had the serious head-scratching done once I found the turn buoy and started coming home – but we had all misunderestimated Shane's cunning plan with the fake turn mark over by Jericho. So he carefully dropped back a bit to let us venture off out to sea… by the time I got to the wrong buoy, I scanned around, to see, of course, Shane with his head down, cranking towards the actual turn buoy. Nice work Shane. My own fault, I suppose, for thinking that I was going the right way because people were following me. My apologies to Kirk, Pete, Mike, Erik, anyone else lured off on my strategic misadventure.

Lots of fun - good to see people on the water!

Yep….that's Ian. On the island the guys know NOT to follow him on a race course. They have learned by trial and error !
