HR monitors

This is an old topic, but after umpteen years, I wanted to try a heart rate monitor with a GPS.. Not a big deal, BUT since I'm getting older, I need a BIG display. I have been using a Garmin trex, but it doesn't have a HR.

You can get a heart rate monitor from Wahoo and use it with a phone app. That gives you a really big display. Greg B uses that set up with app called Crew Nerd I believe.

Larry,

I’m using a Garmin 935 round my foot strap and a Garmin chest strap HRM. Works amazing and you can customize the size of display. Going the smart phone route also sounds good.

If you’re doing sessions longer then 90 minutes, battery life is going to be an issue with phone based options. But the Garmin watches all can go multiple days between charges.

Also, Garmin has its act together with GPS data and being able to use the data in a meaningful way with Garmin Connect.

Final thought: Greg Redman is doing a KILLER job with his coaching service for average Joes like me, and he’s also coaching a number to top tier pros. Every day I get an email outlining the workouts for that day, and the workouts for tomorrow. The calendar is based on a list of races that I peg as significant (Hellooooo Salmon Roe!!!). It takes the guess work out of what you do every day. Can’t recommend it enough. Email greg@...
