Reivers…Thought about calling you this morning, but I decided to hog it all for myself. Went out at 9 am after seeing the bay cam register gusts over 20 mph. When I arrived, it had been raining a little, the wind was blowing but the only whitecaps were clear out by the buoy. It was a high flow ebb so there should be something worth riding. Paddled down the wall (1 footers there), then angled out until I was outside the buoy. When I turned, I had 2 footers and was getting speeds into the 9's. It wasn't epic so I made the decision to turn back to the park as soon as I passed the buoy. Then, oh boy, I got my father's day present. First, 3 -4 footers, then some 4 - 5 footers. Steep and deep. Didn't see a single weed anywhere. My 6.5“ DK rudder wasn't enough to keep me glued to the waves and I broached a few times. Went into the bay about 1.5 miles before turning back to shore. Hope it holds for this afternoon.

A good contingent made it out for an afternoon session; Mike G, Duncan, Michael M., Reivers, Larry B and Roger Lamb. A little slow and small at around 1:00 and then the wind died down and the waves got big and clean and fun…right in front of Marine Park and out about halfway or more to the buoy. Maybe it was the start of a strong flood, maybe it was a Father's day present, I don't know but I haven't heard that much hootin' and a hollerin' in a while. As Duncan said, it was like getting money for nothing…no “upwind” fight to speak of. I did laps until I couldn't lift my arms. Larry B and Reivers were still out there at 3:00 whoopin' it up like a couple of school kids when I called it a day.

That was it. The magic carpet ride stuff. Can someone explain what makes that happen? It actually didn't look like much from the beach. There was some capping action way off shore. The best stuff was like John said. There was a slot between the buoy and Post Point.
That long boat of Duncan's really hooked up in that stuff. Rybzyk was rippin it up in his R like crazy.
Maybe it was the reallly low water level against those shallows right there. It was at the end of the really big ebb, going into a big flood. Steady south wind about 7 to 12 mph. Duncan says he's noticed in Spring that there is sometimes a 30 minute kick at the end of a big ebb. But I didn't notice very strong flow either way. I think LB were in the water for a little over 90 minutes. Even if we had a spotter, this stuff wasn't that obvious from shore.
Sure would like to be able to predict it . Or maybe it was good all day long?
