We put in at 10:30. It looked so nice and inviting. Duncan, Bob McB, LG, LB and I.
I explained to the guys that we should work our way down along the lee shore as far as possible to get the good rides back. Duncan said, uh guys, gonna blow 50. Nobody listened.
We got around Post Point with a little effort and two lost hats. Duncan and Bob just did short loops. LB, LG and I made it to the tunnel and turned. Incredible rides, but very fast waves. If you slowed, then you had to claw your way back up to speed. Wind started to get jiggy. We went back for a short loop from Post Point and I happened to notice a huge cyclone of water. It was offshore from the tunnel area. No way to communicate with LB or LG. Duncan and I hugged shore. Noticed LB and LG getting great rides, but starting to get a whuppin from the side winds. We clawed our way into MP and helped each other put boats up.
Steve S showed up and seemed to be the only one to pass the IQ test. Bob P. and Nick put in while we were telling lies about how scary it was. Alan L. put in as well.
Here's a snap of Locust Wind chart. If not readable, it says Noon: blowing steady at 50 mph, gusts way off the chart.

Big bad wolf was howling today. In Bob and myself's defense, we had just bagged a Wildcat Run (it was a little nuts looking with no margin of error, the kind of footage you don't let wifey see) so laps at MP seemed like the kiddy pool and we enjoyed ourselves flirting with the wind line.
Many thanks to Duncan who wisely nabbed my ski at the very moment the wind was about to flick it to Vancouver.

To add a little to those two comments, this was the first time I have ever had this happen. So we got past post point and I was being lazy and got blown out of the boat close to the rocks, which was great incentive to get right back in quickly, and not screw up, i did but had to go back behind the point, in the lee of the wind just to turn around and started after those guys, well a ways past the point my bow was just cresting a wave when a gust hit me (50?) stood the boat (for a second) quite up right, maybe 45 deg but of course felt like vertical. Landed, turned, and went like a rabbit headed for the bushes back home. That big east wind is a bear. Grizzley type.

I made it out to Post Point on my first two laps and managed to get some nice rides.
On the third lap I saw a couple mini waterspouts forming right in front of Marine Park; swirling white spray trying unsuccessfully to form into a bona fide waterspout. I dodged them and continued on to Post Point, where this time I hit a wall of wind so strong I was blown backwards while paddling at full effort. I kept thinking the gust would die out, but it never did, so I turned slightly and let the wind catch my boat and spin me around toward the gravel beach. I usually turn with my ama out towards the wind, but with this kind of wind, I'm not so sure I would have been able to keep it down even bracing with all my weight! Thereafter, I proceeded to surf some bumps back to Marine Park.
I still wanted a little more water time, and being the glutton for punishment that I am, I tried to head back out to Post Point. I got about halfway there, and then just stayed in place for a minute or so, so I called it a day and headed in.
