Full of water but otherwise just fine. It was a slow tow back across the bay.

Nice work Paul!!

Reivers Dustin 12/11/22 #32832

was it in the delta? doesn't look like Portage or that hard rock shore along Marine Drive…

paul clement 12/11/22 #32833

Yes, on the West side of the delta, waiting patiently…

A note for Flex owners: I have always been leery of the stern leash setup with the bung at the back of the boat. Somewhere in the adventure, the bung was pulled out of the boat. Maybe the leash wraped around it? Fortunately, it self righted and didn't take on enough water to sink. It rolled over a couple of times on the tow back to the plywood plant when I went too fast, but I got to it and rolled it upright again. There was so much water in it that I could not pick it up at the beach.

Way to go, Paul!

Toby Cooper 12/11/22 #32835

How did he get separated from the boat? What did we learn?

John Rybczyk 12/11/22 #32836

Well, I'm just so happy that Dan is ok, that I've refrained from making any of my usual smart-a comments. However, Paul, finding Dan's waterlogged boat on the Delta, on a cold, foggy morning and towning it all the way back to town…If there was ever a case of one dude owing another dude a beer or twenty, this is it!

David Scherrer 12/11/22 #32837

I heard that the CG boys had to separate the boat from Dan, he was still attached….then had to let the ski go. Thats just how it was.

When rescued it was reported that he was with his boat. The rescuers wisely chose to leave the boat and get Dan onboard and treated ASAP. Good move on their part.

David Scherrer 12/11/22 #32839

I know Dan is planning on writing up all the details soon…..Just really glad all has worked out the way it did.
Thanks again Paul.

Paul hella mission, can’t thank you enough now I’m back up to two boats. Like I said before maybe I should put my name in it. I did talk to Dan last night and you almost have to hear the whole episode in person. I’m sure he’ll write it up, but I don’t know if that can do it all justice. Maybe he could post a video dissertation on whatcom Paddlers. After all, it was an extension of a down winter winder and we post videos of downwind Wave riding all the time this would just add a little or a lot .

I forgot this part most interesting. It was the huge logs and debris that he encountered, which made it unbelievable to survive.

Nice job Paul!

Way to go, Paul!!
