Close, but no Cigar

Well I thought I had the perfect opportunity; flood and good wind. All continued to look good on the slog to Governors until the end of the Wall when the wind started to die at the South part of the Bay. At Governors, it had flattened significantly and about 5 mph from the West. Also, it was like the Sargasso sea out there with the eelgrass. ANyhow, I thought I'd try anyway. First half of the run was lousy; side chop of about 1 foot and no real wind. Then miraculously at around the train tunnel, the wind picked right up and the second half was just beautiful; 2-3 foot rollers and 10-15 mph. Good way to finish.

Time? 31:04 to the tide stick, and 32:53 to the Dockyard wall. But, I only covered 4.63 miles on the GPS, not the required 4.87, so Morris' record stands.

Go for it,

Simon

Morris- Why is it that you went farther than everyone else with the same start and stop? You going in circles? Surfing at a diagonal down the waves, first in one direction and then the other? Or did Simon prove the theory that distances shorten as you approach the speed of light?

Shaun and I did a downwinder (today, sissy style) from Wildcat Cove and started our watches at Whiskey Rock. It was 2-3 footers from the southwest and near perfect conditions except for the ebb tide. Weeds were really prevelent south of Govornor's and we decided to stick together instead of racing back on our own. Great rides but we kept burying our noses in the waves in front of us. Out time to the north end of the drydock was 37:00 only because the ebb conditions (high frequency steep waves) hampered high speeds. This goes to show that you need to do this on a flood or slack tide in order to take advantage of the wind.
