Keeping Pogies Unbunched and Open

Pogie question

In preparation for tomorrow’s race in Portland, I am trying to remember what you guys do to the pogies to keep them from bunching up on your hands as you paddle. I have some nice lightweight pogies that I bought awhile ago, and I am hoping to use them tomorrow instead of my weighty neoprene ones. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks!

My preference is really short cuff pogies. I've tried sewing plastic wire-ties inside the cuff to make them hold shape, but any longer cuffs really bunch up if you come out of the boat and then re-mount and have to get your hands back on the paddle. Neoprene so they hold their shape. The ones I have now are probably 20 years old. One caution: if you do salt water paddling, you need to rinse the salt out after each paddle or you'll get salt crystals which will abrade your knuckles.

Here's the closest Ive seen to what I'm using:

Big fan of Braca Sport low profile pogies. They are a super light but require a two piece paddle to install because no Velcro front. Easiest in and out for hands and just enough wind blocking to keep hands warm without overheating. It’s like they are not even there.
