Don't need a bridle, but think I lost my dignity out somewhere on the course. It was sagging pretty bad before we even got to the first turn. The last tatters fell away along the back stretch when I noticed that Heather was reeling me in while pleasantly chatting with the people around us. Meanwhile I was breathing so hard, as LB likes to say, I was “sucking mosquitoes up from 15 feet away”.
Seems like everyone got younger but me.
What a turnout. It was like just before ski-to-sea. Musta been 40 boats. I was fooled by the sun: it turned chilly by the end of the race. The wind came up. Too bad because there is such a great crop of new babies to peek at. But it was too cold to hang out very much.
It's going to be a great summer. Maybe if I ease up on the Ben 'n Jerries I'll find some of those shreds of dignity out there somewhere.
