Not much to write about the short course, light Easterly wind left a small side chop which sort of was annoying the first mile out and the last mile back. But a tail wind to the turn buoy off the Park and a head wind back which took about a little over a half of mile an hour off. Peter Hirtle took line honors in a Single Shell followed by a strong ladies double Shell, then came a Jr Surfskier that we had duked it out with the previous race, in Lipps Oc-4 at Lake Samish. We turned even at the mark but he was able to catch the double shell and it was bye, bye…Peter Turcan rounded out the top Three Hpks and Julie V brought home 1st place in the ladies Oc-1.
Long course: The speedy 4 person Shell that raced in the 70/48 was the first to come rocketing around the bridge for the long course. At the start though, couple of HPKs forgot it was a 15 miler and decided to do a 200 meter race pace for there Long Course…This caught a few paddlers off guard as they scrambled to try and catch catch up drafts from 2 and 4 person shells. Kevin O and Jonas E got pulled over for a “Wake” warning (maybe not, but should have….) for excess speed and Greg B tried to crash there party but ran out of miles and when they came through the East side of the bridge…it was the 4-person Shell followed by Bellingham legends, Kevin, Jonas in the Fenn HPK 2 and Greg B in the Epic V-14 for Top Three Mens and Tracy Landboe taking Long Course women's title in an Epic.
Food was outstanding with The Grill Chef making Three different kinds of Braut. Awards and race where smoothly run and even the finish announcer was cheering everyone on at the finish dock and if you strayed from the finish, Steve Bennett was doing his best imitation of Ninja Warrior poses to get your attention and finish correctly!! Thank you Ranier and Crew. Peter
