Well…here I am last night at the Hostel on Marin Headlands. Interesting place to stay, I do believe I am the minority nationality. Sitting in the common room I hear so many different languages. Like sitting amongst a flock of birds….I believe Dutch is gotta be one of the most awkward, strange to my ears.
Anywho, I just heard a phone message today, Sunday, from Larry B. that I got a bronze at the Champs. Well that beats all…I left the event early figuring my sorry performance wasn't worth anything, plus I was near to throwing up an didn't feel all that social. Taking three attempts to get through the surf, I drank a fair amount of sea water. In my nervousness at the pre race rundown, I managed to eat some orange peel..not to smart. OK OK the water was epic, and dam rough, Had to get off course dodging a freighter, figured my race was pretty much compromised. Oh well…..later going under the gate, with an ebb to beat the band and tide rip. Ask Dunc, he has a killer story. We had to skirt the south side of the south support very lumpy and counter currents etc everywhere..worst I've ever seen. My competition passed me on a new V10Sport…..Un, Duncan you still interested in selling one of your new V10 Sports? But the entrance was just an little introduction to the south side of Alcatraz. More technical and changeling than anything outside the gate, even the patch an rip was tame in comparison. Like the Gorge in 4 dimensions. Feeling a little seasick, oh ya. Somehow got through, no thanks to the numerous ferries with their steep wakes…So eventually the Bay did manage to offer up some nice surfing about a 1/4 mile after the Island of lost hope..home of Al Capone. Thanks goodness, systems at this point were sizing up a bit and I very mush appreciated the rides. Heading into Berkeley surfing my way in next to Herald form South Africa, great fellow, my competition. Somehow he got by me.
Crawled my way off the boat at the finish, fortunately was met by my cousin. We then loaded Paul's boat on the van and headed out…So thats my race story. Today I'm feeling a little more human and it was great to hear from Larry, then later from Skooz. Hading back to B'ham Monday. Had some great Mt. biking on the Headlands and the Russian river valley. Found some amazing restaurants etc. etc. but that's another story…….David

I don’t know Duncan, you probably would have won at least two age groups.
