Thanks to all the Whatcom Paddlers who made the trip to Deep Cove for yesterday's Tour de Indian Arm (TDIA). The weather cooperated and everybody seemed to have fun.
Next North of The Border event is the Round Bowen Challenge, June 27. Its a great race! This year you can do the whole 32 km, or do a relay, or do half the island from Tunstall Bay to Snug Cove. Bowen Island Sea Kayaking always puts on a good show. The post race celebration is second to none. Takes place on the docks overlooking beautiful Snugg Cove, Enjoy a great Salmon BBQ and craft beer while hob-nobbing with your race chums.
At TDIA, Kathleen P/ Gareth TJ from Vancouver Island, won the day in the fastest double 1 hr 18min. Wes Hammer who was the fastest Canadian at last years Canadian Surfski Champs, clung to their wash for over half the race. While a little ways back, US Tandem teams Brandon / Jonas, Don/Elana to 4th and 5th over all. At the 1/3 point, Kirk Christensen had a nice gap to put him in a solid 2nd place for solo, when a temporary brain fart caused him to miss a mid-way turning mark, he had to double back and that had him surrounded by the likes of Nicholas Cryder and Shane Martin. Those three battled it out for the next 12 km, with Nick coming out on top followed by Shane, then Kirk. Heather Nelson was the fastest women of the day.

I ran into several folks at the Ski to Sea race yesterday who asked me about the Think International Results. USA won the the Dan Harris leg, 53 (USA) to 188 for Canada (low score is better). Canada won the Tour de Indian Arm leg, 85 (Canada) to 155 (USA). Combining the two, USA won the Challenge 208 to 273. Overall, two great days of racing!
