…was like being in an episode of “Fear Factor”… if your fear is being completely, 100% head to toe covered in flying instects! I don't know how it was for the morning crew, but at 1pm when we left the Guide put-in heading for Hovander, we immediately ran into a mass of flying instects that was so thick they completely covered us. They were in our eyes, mouths, noses, it was a good time. We could not look ahead at all or they would fly into our eyes, so had to look down, and just take momentary glances ahead to make sure we weren't about to run into the bank, logs, etc. It was not a good way to paddle. We had to take it VERY slow for nearly 3 miles of this insect invasion.
After that, it cleared up a lot, with only a couple of brief pockets of the same insects here and there, but not as dense nor for long periods.
I would love feedback from others who went in the morning, and those who went later in the afternoon. Anyone else have the bug problem be that severe? I literally was 100% covered for over 15 minutes, it was seriously nasty. I'm sure they were out at other times of the day, but am wondering about the intensity of the swarm for others.
