Race report 3/26/2016
The Bellingham youth were smokin' fast today. A strong turnout from whatcom county on the Sammanish river.
The 2K time trial race was hosted by Dan “Danimal” Henderson and Cascade Paddlesports. His new venue at Blue Heron Landing is a beautiful location. 50 entries seeded slowest to fastest lined up single file and fired off every 30 seconds.
Ellie Scoggins and Mia Clarke went out charging in their Mini K1s. These two 8 year olds were the youngest out there, but certainly not the slowest. Nor was Molly Spilker, rocking the Jester Jr surfski, most likely being the youngest ski rider competing in the states this afternoon.
Tate Huizenga and Zachary McGiverin were back to their old duel. These two youngsters are constantly trading leads. I think McGiverin took him today.
Chayse Gauthier steamrolled upriver and back down for a new PR. Talia Clarke was bold and resilient. She used a borrowed Epic Legacy due to a missing seat in the Olympic Warrior she usually paddles. She caught some mud on her paddle during an agressive pass, took a quick dip, swiftly remounted and still made a very strong finish time. Keep watching those Clarke girls…..
Newcomer Emma McCoy is making big strides quickly. She held her own today, throwing “Texas Big” punches in the Super Lancer.
Sierra Noskoff and Abby Scoggins settled back in to old ways, hard charging and knocking out some tough competition. Milan Gauthier emerged from Winter training older, stronger, and fierce like the tiger. She's old enough for Olympic Hopes this year and is putting some serious work in.
Jonas Ecker went wild today, taking back his top dog status from a multi season rival….awesome.
Ana Swetish and Elena Wolgamot were once again in the SST class. The friendly rivalry continues between our local national champs.
Cameron Bartlett moved up a couple of notches in the pecking order today. He has been really working his technique and efficiency. It paid off today for sure.
Other notable mentions……Miles CrossWhiter(Seattle)made a finish time that reflects a 9.5+ mph average….that's including a tight turn????? Crazy. It'd be awesome to get him on lake whatcom some wednesday evening.
The kids are back in action.
