Last Friday I picked up my friend Mike Higgins from the Alaska Ferry. He just finished the R2AK, a “non powered” boat race of 750 miles from Port Townsend to Ketchican, Alaska. He paddled a sea kayak with food and camping gear (no land support allowed) and finished 14th overall. Took him 25 days, including the 2.5 lay days waiting for high winds to end, he averaged 30 miles per day. Mike was only solo paddle craft (the first place was a sailboat that took 7 days).

Roger, that puts you in the company of R2AK royalty: The first R2AK, and a finisher, at that! It was an awesome race, and those that endured it (and those awful NWesterlies) are a part of Inside Passage history. That is very cool…
