Race start 6:00am tomorrow PST. You can find updates on the 2019 ICF Ocean Racing World Championships Facebook page. I believe there will also be a live feed on that same page. GPS tracker link below along with some background on the race.

With about 1/3rd of the 23k course left, it appears Ana is in roughly 150th place with Wilson in about 177th. Strong work guys!

They are done! Looks like Ana won Junior Women.
(and I may have the distance wrong… not sure which course they went with)
Cant wait to hear the stories. Great job Ana & Wilson!

Also looks like some guy named Greg Barton was first US finisher, 62 over all. Insane. Wonder if he'll race masters tomorrow as well? :D

Congrats Ana and Wilson! That's incredible!

Bob Putnam - do you have a son racing as well? I saw that Seth Putnam-Rea from Canada came in one spot ahead of Wilson. If so, congrats to him as well!

Yes my son raced as well. Very tough conditions with wind and waves almost directly side-on.

Masters race tomorrow. 😬

Inquiring minds want to know.

This is a direct quote from the pre race hype for the ICF World Champs “The location of the race means that it can take a number of routes dependent on the orientation of the wind.”

So why did they make all the paddlers race in way less than ideal side wind conditions? I'm sure Ana, Wilson and everyone else would have preferred an actual downwind race.

A fair question.

While there were many course options and a three day window, this week was thrown out of normal weather patterns by hurricane Dorian. So given the options, I believe they chose the best day and the best course that they could. The only other course option on Wednesday would have been down wind but inside the peninsula so very sheltered.

This was an incredibly well run event and a great venue that had potential to deliver proper ocean racing conditions. Sadly it didn’t come to fruition.

Sure… but managing whatever the ocean throws at you is more impressive and Ana and Wilson shined! Way to represent y’all!

Hi Alan,
The course the ICF offered was that best conditions available during the window. Everybody would always like paddle in perfect downwind conditions all the time, but that is not a reality. Part of Ocean Racing is being able to handle whatever the ocean throws at you. It was certainly a course that challenged the best paddlers in the world, the most versatile paddlers prevailed! Oscar didn't race because it wasn't pure downwind. The ICF put on a great race. Well organized. I was impressed with huge number of younger paddlers participating in the Open, U-23 and U-18 categories. I think the ICF is doing a good job of growing the sport. I would return to do another race here for sure. Hearing from other racers you have participated in races here in previous years, conditions have been very good. As a race organizer it drives me crazy when people criticize events base on weather.

Greg's result–Masters division.

The way I see it, the masters began at age 35 and was divided into 5 year age brackets.

Greg got 1st in his age division 50 to 59 (a very large field). Congratulations!!

2nd in age 45 up to 54, and 6th overall in the total field.

And that’s after a brutal open race the day before!!

David, based on the links results, Greg would have finished between an hour and 4 hrs behind the leader. Hard to tell, but don’t think so! Probably need to wait until the results are cleaned up.

Greg is now 60, he was in 60+ age cat. But he would have won the 50+ too.
