messy. quite a few folks went swimming. some folks pulled out early once they saw the chunky soup. Greg B was fastest boat. The rowers struggled. Pretty good turnout, but nothing like the glory days of a hundred boats. Probably a good thing due to how rough it was. The run out on the first half didn't seem too bad. Going around the rock and the turn buoy were windy in your face, but not technical. But once I got around that turn buoy I was struggling. I had pulled a good first half and crawled ahead of David S. There was a strong guy ahead that I was hoping to creep up on. But the soup got the best of me after that turn. I lost track of the guy ahead and David tractored his way past me. I was flopping around like one of those Mr Bill cartoon skits. I never swam, but there were some big ugly braces going on. There were finishers showing up 2-1/2 hours after the start so it was a long day for some. Several that I talked to did a swimming leg.
The thing is, there was beam mix of bigs and cresting trash all the way back. I bet the Governor's Point run up here was chancey off the wall.
Surprised I didn't get seaweed in my teeth out there this morning.

RD, now I know why you do these 7 miles of bad road, bad weather forecast races. It gives us all a chance to enjoy some great reading, and keeps your refined literary ,and artistic merit flowing. On the other side we had a decent downwinder from Larrabee, about the time you were having fun around the rock. D

glad you liked it. as for myself it sucked. Afterwards David was very gentlemanly and good sporting. Like, saying were you ok buddy and shit. Here I am the big old studly gorge trained big water dude with all my shit flopping around like a rodeo clown. dang. humiliating is what it is.
going out tomorrow and try to paddle like a normal person.
