Interesting. Lots of my favorite people showed up. What the heck got into Micheal Dee - did he eat some special version of a voodoo doughnut? Nice top ten finish buddy.

Something cool about so many different kinds of boats. Lots of them. You guys probably all sat around the fire after and told stories about how wonderful us lazybones were, right?

I'll do the course twice next year.

Funny you should mention “fire” - NEXT year, every racer should bring 3 logs, so we can have a nice, pre/post race bonfire. That would have helped. A lot.

And be sure to ask Michael Dee about HOW he finished ahead of Heather…

Some stuff I think you should know. A great race with cool rainy conditions and 15k east winds, west swell @ 2 ft. Cool and rainy lets you really push it and maintain a comfortable body temp. The Hammer-Smith OC-2, Heather, Greg B. and myself all battled hard. I drafted Heather from Strawberry to Deception Island, then pulled ahead with a half mile to go. The Hammer-Smith double now comes roaring up passing me with Heather in tow. I decided to move over to get on the wake and I thought Heather was falling off and back but she was not. I pushed her off as we smacked paddles on boats many times until I flipped her. This was not what I wanted, I am sorry Heather. She would have taken 8th with me 9th.

There was no fire but there was discussion on how we missed the Bellingham crew. Now this doughnut stuff background. The first time I showed up for a Saturday paddle I thought it would cool to share a box of chocolate covered chocolate doughnuts. I went around to everyone there and no one would take one. I thought what a crew of hard core athletes. These guys have strict dietary standards to achieve maximum performance. Now I know the truth, it's ice cream and beer that gives 'em the speed and power.

You sure that was only a 15 knot wind? It sure felt stronger than that going into it….and cold too!

Ah, not so good news that Heather got the rough deal. We have just a few good women paddlers around. To me they are a treasure for the sport. I would put serious effort into making amends, as best as possible. (And there's the small matter of the large husband!)

But the Nelson pair are wonderfully gracious, so likely you won't be an inch shorter next time we see you.

While you folks were working DPD, we had a flat paddle for our Saturday run. Dean showed up, complaining about how out of shape he was. We had a nice calm pace down, then the after-burners kicked in on the way back. Dean stopped complaining, but then everyone else started up (after Dean kicked us around out there). Pretty fun at coffee after. I made the mistake of asking how these Ipod things work and all the youngsters started explaining. Except Debbie, with her kids tumbling around her. She found it funny judging by the Mona-Lisa smile.

Ever wonder why geese honk so much when flying in formation? If you look real close as they fly by, haha its just fun chatter from banging wings when drafting.
