Deception Pass Dash 2011

You were missed DJ. It was mostly flat with some nice treachery available from tricky currents and hidden lanes through the bull-kelp. Because it's a big turn out there's some interesting duels happening for almost everyone. Rick & Marc in their double XT were early finishers near Brandon, I think Erik B was up there. Gabe was the top dawg on surfski. Don K was laying down on the job and paddled a prone board.

LB, Micheal Dee, Alan from Sequim and I had a gunfight for every inch of the race. Alan pulled for most of it. He picked smart lanes for current and kelp and never seemed to fade where there was a way around him. We four could see Heather just ahead. She got headed a little in some current on the first half, but slammed the door after that. I foxed LB in the kelp, but mostly the four-wolf-pack just crashed boats together until the last turn. It got rough around there and we exploded into pairs or singles. Alan and I hammered on each other all the way to the finish and just behind, Micheal managed to shut down LB.

We need to get Micheal Dee on a donut diet or something. He pushed that S1-R around pretty well today. I don't have an answer for Heather, she just powered up over my red-line. Roger L. had some gunfight duel with a guy we see regularly on our races, but I forgot the name. Brian B and Dave threw-down against Alan L and Eric G. I think Rick & Marc saw a little of that carnage and had to work their way out of the blast zone.

The event was fun. I get a kick out of such a mass-mix of different boats. The food was s-l-o-w to get out, but really, really good (BBQ pork, cornbread, coleslaw, BBQ beans, rice).

Lots of schwag. great to see Tracy C., Shane B. and all the far-flung paddling brethren and sistren out there.

A good day. Now I go to bed.
