Flat water, gray skies, and a minimal tidal exchange. Sounds boring but it still made for a great race. Joost joined up with Peter M. in a V-10 tandem and I believe they set a new course record. The big surprise was BBOP's OC-6; I have never seen a six-man move that fast for that long. Luckily for Shaun and I, they came diagonally across the starting area and ended up in front of us. We rode their wash for 99% of the race, and when we did try to pass, it was futile. I remember having 20+ OC-6's at Gibsons, and even after a 5 minute head start, Kathleen P. and I caught all but one, and we were in an XT tandem. This BBOP crew had their stuff together and finished about a second ahead of us. They should have a great season ahead of them.
Hats off to John R. for organizing this race and also to all the hard working volunteers. I must add that the rescue boats were not annoying as they had been in the past. I had fun…..

Double the hats off to John and crew! Thanks to Wyatt (the gun) for bringing the big power. As I thought might happen, Peter and Joost buried us early and kept on going… What a show they put on. Looking forward to Deep Cove.

I dueled with all the usual suspects: Micheal Dee scares me with that ferocious start, But David and Simon took the start to the redline. They were in that mass on the right and the wake looked like a tug-boat wave. Dan W played a very cool hand working off two doubles. I thought I was a genius trying to work off Morris and Devan, but couldn't hang with them. After Post Point I noticed Pete and Mike (OC-2) behind me. Sure enough they pulled around and I got the monster ride. Dan W. made it possible since I couldn't power up without a buffer in between. So our three-pack chased down the next three-pack with Simon and David S. From there it was all guts. “It's not who's fastest, it's who's toughest”, (Steve Prefontain - U.of O. famous footracer who died young.) I had a fantastic race. At first I was bummed about the flat, but it turned out to be more than a brainless grind.
Peter M. musta got wind-burn riding up in front of Joost. What a monster doubles throw-down. I must say, hat's off to Dale for getting this whole idea started. Dan Harris Race is all grown up. Great job JR. I really like the friendly rivalry with our neighbors, (American's w/o guns?) Great to see everyone that came down. Here's to better beer on May 20.

Congrats to John for running another GREAT race, I'm just saying (not that I noticed it or anything, Kristen commented on it) on the number of young co-eds doing registration early on Sunday morning. That feat alone gives him race director for life status, not to mention the race went super smoothly and most of us were double fisting hotdogs at the end. Leave if to Bham to made fun out of a flat day.- rowdy start as well, good times!
