Maybe a couple dozen surfskis and handfull of OC boats and three or four SUPs did the run from P-Cove to Squamish. It wasn't the biggest I've seen, but it was good. The early section was ok, the middle section fantastic and the ending section mixed chop. There was some big event going on with a lot of sailboats/powerboats. The start was very informal so people split up and went different times. I noticed the big dogs stayed way left all the way. This is not obvious and lots of first timers went point-to-point looking to shorten the distances. Not usually the best route. There's a couple factors some of the regulars can explain. Of course nothing is a a sure thing.
The finish will be way up the channel, so save some beans at the end for sloggin your way up the flat. Fun to see all the regulars up there and Howe Sound brew pub is a good match for Boundary bay: great beer, decent food and slow service.
On the commute: we killed it with our Nexus pass (beat roughly one hour waits both ways). But we gave all that time back because we got jammed in Vancouver traffic. Lion's Gate bridge was stopped up both ways. I'm going to study the map a little better. Hilde and I are thinking we'll stay overnight Squamish now.

To Vancouver I like to take Alex Fraser Bridge, Queensbury Bridge, Boundary Road the Iron Workers Bridge. Then you avoid downtown traffic.
FYI there are deals at the Sand Man Hotel in Squamish. Go to the Canadian Surfski Champs website and there is a group Accommodation Sandman Hotel & Suites in Squamish is offering a group rate for CSC racers and friends. Canadian Surfski Championships Group #26662

Godfrey Daniel and mother of pearl! I don't think I can remember all that stuff Bob. It's a bridge too far buddy. Is this like one of your Tues Niters where there's a running leg, a swimming leg and everyone has to exchange shorts with someone before you finish? I'm changing plans - gonna try for one of these rooms.
By the way all the gorge guys must have God on their side: all the wind has left town. I've rarely seen all winds register “calm” all over the San Juans before. It's hot and unless you walk fast you'll breathe your own air around here. bleah.

I'm booked in for Saturday eve. Rate was $120 for room w/ King or two Queen beds. I think add $10 ea for more than two people. However, Hilde and I have some indoor sports planned (sofa-soccer, bedroom badmitton, etc) and none of you scalliwags is invited. They have more rooms. Sat night is filling quicker than Fri night. But most folks are booking both nights.
I notice the hotel is more downtown and maybe not quite walking distance from the brew pub where we normally do beers after. It's 3.6 Km or 2.5 miles or many furlongs depending on alchohol content.
Extra credit to race organizers for picking a place with such a fine brewery in town. (Howe Sound Brewing Co.)

Well for driving directions don't go through down town. Ironworkers Bridge, the same one you would take to get to Deep Cove.
We hope to see you at the pre-race party and check in on Friday.
You can stay at the Holiday Inn. North Van. Very close to Deep Cove Outdoors, Reivers I heard you were going to bid on the back seat of Oscar's Double?
