Soups good…Wind not so much!
But after the last 2 years I will take yesterday!! Such a great venue with the old boathouse, wood stove going and homemade soups and YES, a paddle Race! Next Saturday is Jetty Island in Everett.
BIG THANKS to sponsors RUDY's PIZZA and NWOUTRIGGER.COM.
Paul Clement for the awards, Dorothy Burke and Steve Bennet for the bread and Kevin Olney for the Soup and Jill Komoto and Mike Hammer and Audrey for the sweets! Great help saving the day electronically from Larry Bussinger and Reivers Dustin (…Whew) and the help for the race from Julie Vandooren, Christos and Kim, Christie and Steve Walker and the safety boat crew of Kelly Abbott, Miles and William and Mike Merrick and George Mundell and Gary.
Awesome racing with OC-6's duking it out with OC-1,2, and 4's and the surfski's and rowing shells! We even had a racing buoy try and escape during the race.
Had about 60 plus boats and 80 paddlers for the soggy NW Race. Don't forget to fill out that questionnaire that got handed out!
Cheers and Thank you!! Peter
A whole lotta East tomorrow

Also, it says something when a guy is willing to come down from Comox, Vancouver Island, to paddle in Peter's race. Some of you met Carl, who put in a solid race today… 5th or 6th today?! Despite getting up at 2:30am. What you might not know is that Carl just started paddling last June. That's a lot of development in not a lot of time for a younger gun without a lot of shut eye. But it also speaks to the quality of the race Peter put on today. Well done Peter! Well done racers! You made today great. Pretty rad.

Carl is one of those good guys we like to see in the sport. Except he's too good. We need to give him really rotten boats to paddle. Well, never mind. He's another example of a really good guy from Canada. And there was a great turn out from up North. And down South too. Great to have one of the founders (Greg) show up. He's a huge resource for the NW. Good soup, good cookies. and “perfect conditions”.
I had a messy start: those OC boats are such bullies. But a great race overall. All my arch rivals whooped on me. But I had a duel with a younger fella which turned into a beat down. We hammered on each other pretty much the whole course. I couldn't out sprint at the end, but made him pay dearly for the win. This is what I cling to as an older gentleman. Image is everything.
Good one Peter.

Holy cow what a welcoming bunch you are! That event was worth a crazy long day. $20 for all of that and a T-shirt – what a deal (even in US Dollars eh?). I would have come just for the soup. Great photos too, Michael. Thanks to the organizers, volunteers, safety crew, chefs. photographer and everyone else involved!
Maybe see you folks up here for Indian Arm / Bowen / Canadian Champs, or maybe even down at the Gorge?
I’ll be back… and in regards to your famous Bellingham wind, on my 4th visit I hope not to hear a repeat of “you should have been here yesterday”.
All the best!
Canadian Carl
PS, I did try to send something to this effect from my phone last night, but it didn’t seem to go, so apologies if this is a repeat!
