Northern Spain Estuaries Videos

Main Spain Page

We don't know all the local conditions that lead to such long, surfable waves, but we have noticed a number of these videos. Is there a prevailing northerly swell on the north coast of Spain? Do these coastal openings for rivers tend to filter the swell into more orderly waves, possibly magnified by shallow depth (somewhat like Bundeena)? If you surf any of these northern Spain locations, can you give us more information about when good surfing conditions occur? There also seem to be plenty of good surfing beaches on the north side of Spain, but these inlets seem to provide (at least occassionally) exceptionally long, non-collapsing waves which may offer a lot of wave surfing fun along with somewhat less danger to equipment and self than one often finds in shorebreaks.

(Not an estuary (ria) - just a somewhat protected bay, where longer rides on non-breaking waves were available on high tide swell)
