Member Ian posted this over on facebook, so I just poached it off so us mainlanders get a look.

The Nanaimo Race:
This was a great race today. There was a solid turnout made up of folks from Nanaimo, Comox, Victoria and even a few boat toting walk-ons from Van. It was beautifully sunny and warm and felt like the official end of winter.

Carl, Gareth and I had a mostly tight race. I got a little over-excited at the start and came out strong but quickly earned myself the nastiest fore-arm pump I've ever had. We nestled into a pack for while. I fell back for a bit while struggling to hold on to my paddle, but eventually caught up. In the last quarter, Carl put his head down and charged ahead to put a 20sec or so gap on Gareth who once again had me clinging to his wash. Connor from Van was not far behind us looking strong and that's about all I can speak to.

It was interesting going into this race, being so early in the year, one really doesn't know what to expect. I wasn't sure where the competition would be at and also wasn't quite sure what I could ask of myself. What I do know is that there was some awesome racing today, Carl got a well-earned win and things are looking pretty good for racing on the island this year.

Carl is going to show for the Rough Water race. Maybe we can get him drunk the night before or something. Ideas welcome.

He did two oc6 races on Sat before whipping our butts on the Sunday, so I think it's gonna have to be a pretty drastic level of drunk!
