group text

A few of the gang missed this morning due to commo troubles. On my phone I can't add to a group if the person has a non-iPhone. And trying to keep up with this message site is not reliable. Sometimes yahoogroup server just gets laggy and won't post a message for a while. In my case I don't get emails, but rather choose to log into yahoo to see the postings. So the timing is rotten for these short term deals.

I was reading about twitter. Hope we don't go that way. Maybe theres another way to message each other. Maybe we can get the SMS group thing cleaned up so we don't leave anyone out. What about Snapchat? Whatsapp? Talkatone? There's a need for a heads-up notice type thing here, but not sure of the best solution. Should we post a list on here of everyone who wants a txt notice for a downwinder?

Theres also some etiquette things to think about on the group text. We'll get buried in chatter if there's too much “me too”, or “yeah, that's great” or “I can't go then, can we move ten minutes earlier” type messages. Maybe actually call the person on voice (even though it's easier for you to hit reply - it's not easier for everyone else.)

I suppose we might get where the trailer driver needs an RSVP. That didn't happen today. Except I messed the thing up a little because I didn't understand where the meet was.

This is where we should spitball the ideas guys. Where things aren't so time sensitive.

Can't you group your contacts by category, mine are family, friends, vendors etc, then use the group action to text or email? You can select which contacts in the group to respond to, at least on Android.

What about getting a group text them keep then not delete the entire conversation? Maybe indivual messages if desired but keep the groupn

I'm thinking my problem is an apple thing. Reading about it says that iMessage is special. I've bought an app called Group Text+ (it was hard to find). This looks like it will work, but my phone broke and I lost a couple of days on repairs, then my sweetheart left for Spain so I need to spend some time with her.

By the way david: posted times are departure. like planes, trains and automobiles buddy. Technically the 9:00am Saturday paddle is where you start paddling at 9:00. But you know, it's not like a job interview or anything. It's a lot of fun to have you to pick on after waiting for you. The ones that get me are Dean, and also Wermus. these guys show up late, dawdle around putting in the water last, then go blasting by everyone like their rudder was on fire. dang. Maybe if I start at 8:00am I'll finish with you guys.

late bloomer,

By the way, the app: “Group Text+” is plain, simple SMS oriented. Most of the messaging apps are all full of buzzers, alarms, ways to add video, crap I don't want and would distract my one working brain cell.

Can you get a grandkid to show you how?

If you have an iPhone and want to group text people who aren't on iPhones you have to go into settings and disable i-messaging. By default, iPhones use I-messaging, which uses Apple servers instead of the cell carrier network. If you disable it, it reverts to standard SMS messaging. Hope that helps. I had the issue when I was the only non iphone member of my family.
