Sunday Morning Blaster Conditions Was Ideal For Kayak Polo

gsouthstone Jan 2 #30747
It was perfect conditions for 'polo this morning, our gear can usually stand up to winds in the 50's- like this morning-. Only when the anchors drag, do we have to call it quits. But, our motto is “the rougher the better”. We were the only ones on the water. It was not a good day for laps. Ya, this is a 'polo plug.
One OC regular even got geared up to do laps after our game but quickly saw the wisdom in doing a downwinder instead, it took three of us to get his boat safely secured back on his car rack. It was pleasantly warm though, most of us were overdressed. Bottom line, we got extra gear for those who wish to give it a try. Don't fret, your peers won't know it is you once the helmet is on. Below are attached a few videos that our award winning documentarian has produced over the years, notice the happy faces;

and I thought us regular paddlers were crazy.

Or you could have joined Denise W., Dan Mayhew and me on the more manageable waters of Lake Whatcom.

We had a little more S wind and a little less E than we seem to have on the best Lakecat runs we have had so far. It was a little bumpier and cross wavy than usual on the approach to Reveille Island. Then we got hit by strong gusts and waves coming from our left as we passed Sudden Valley. But things straightened out and built for plenty of fun as we approached and passed Strawberry Pt.

We all agreed it was a fine way to paddle into 2022.
