JULY MADNESS RESULTS!!!
With July now history, the first annual July Madness King is
Larry G
Larry blowing away the competition with over 400 miles logged!!! This come from behind win included a week of only logging 5 miles of paddling, so the question is out there if he'll be going to the 500 mile club next year? Good job winning the grand prize of the Mocke lifejacket donated by Ocean Paddlesports!
Runner-up for distance competition is Rick, who took an early lead and ended up totaling 307 miles proving that the best thing about being a teacher is the having summers free!
Most epic and longest single day goes to the trio of Morris, Kirk, and Brad for completing the 80-plus circumnavigations the San Juans in one day. Starting the journey in the dark, having an encounter with our friends in homeland security at dawn and finishing in record time makes a truly amazing adventure. Rumors have it that Morris was not the least bit tired at the end of the day and started flexing his guns and put on a good show during the post-event interview with press at the finish line (per Kirk)!
Most improved goes to two local paddlers who have made huge waves recently and are both great ambassadors of the sport. Beau was the leading SUB'er and has been a strong force introducing this new type of paddling/surfing to the PNW, he's the guy you see out on the cold days all winter long - so you know he must have been loving the warm weather we had all July! Secondly, Jeff Hegedus has been stepping up the intensity and picking off the pack all year and seems to be getting faster every day, watch out SanFran for this dark horse!
Thanks again to all participants and supporters. We hope to make some changes and be back bigger and better in '09. Thanks for making this a `home-grown' paddling event and stay safe on the water!
Happy Paddling,
DJ and Kristen
