-woah. This whole thing is a giant extravaganza. Sunday we just got our butts down here. The I-5 part sucked. several serious accidents (complete with mashed up cars and dazed people walking around in the median). Quite a few OC paddlers gathering up their bits and pieces from the prior days events. The cabin next to me a couple neat OC paddlers stayed an extra day to stage out more comfortably. -Monday kicked off with a run from Draino to Hatcher. River looked quiet and forecast not promising much. But the Duncan magic hit. We just caught a spike in wind that was perfect for that run. Put boats and paddlers back on the road and noticed the river was laying back down. Sweet. We had a full-on wolf pack for this ride with DJ and Josh and a few other wayfaring strangers. One minor hit: Wilson lost rudder traction and had to pull off and wait for us to come back for him. DJ was all over it and got him to a good pull-out, so all ended well. We all recovered, then did a surprisingly good home valley run. +

-Too much going to tell. Some excellent clinics. John talked to LB and me about his ride behind Oscar in a double. It was fascinating to hear those two compare between LB behind Carter. John was clearly still processing the sensory overload. There'​s a level of wave riding that just is some magic line to cross. +

 I hope that's not the way it goes. I have taken part in the DW champs (two years ago), and it was a hell of a lot of fun. However, this event needs to maintain the 'first come, first serve' registration mentality for racers, regardless if you're amateur or pro, have blazing-saddle speed or you're just in it for the surf. I hope that's not the way it goes.  I'm glad to hear you folks talk about the difficulty of this race. It was my first and I only got launched once. I don't think I would have been allowed to register in a qualification situation as I hadn't paddled a racing surfski until a few days before the race. I just hope we have conditions like that every year as some of the surf rides were truly unbelievable. I was hooting and hollering at the others on the waves but they just kept their heads down and pushed on. What fun! I took a good minute relaxing in the water before the remount and watched several competitors fly by.
