Lake Whatcom Classic

  • Annual spring race in Bellingham. The courses (short and long) are pretty simple if you want to time trial it. Both races start and end even with the corner of the park hedge and rock wall end on land where the race timers sit?? This race tradtionally allows drafting outside of boat class which may contribute to some extra fast surfski times? In 2021 a course bend was added to the finish.
    • Long course - around Reveille Island and back
      • 2x Flatwater Shell - Evan Jacobs and Tyler Peterson 1:24:17.2 2013
      • SS1 Greg Barton 1:30:10.2 2016
    • Short course - around a buoy at Strawberry Pt. and back - let's say you have to go within 50 yds of land at the Point.
      • 1x Flatwater Shell David Deschenes 34:41 2017
      • SS1 David Jacobson 37:39.8 2013

Lake Whatcom Wednesday Night Race Course

  • This course has tended to evolve over the years with the coming and going of race landmarks like the “bucket”. So up to now the times mentioned here have to all have asterisks due to the changing nature of the course. And to be honest…, there are probably other questionable practices - like the moving start that render the race unfit for exact record keeping. Unfortunately we do not have any times (at least not so far) for some of the earlier races from Joost Zeegers or Greg Barton. Wednesday night race stories

San Juans Circumnavigation

  • A lot of variables involved in this circuit. No one has specified any kind of official break allotment that doesn't have to be counted in the overall time. Seems like one shouldn't have to count time spent talking to homeland security. In any event we will keep some records of notable trips here if we receive reports.
    • SS1
      • 15 hrs 30 minutes 2009 83 miles Kirk Christensen, Morris Arthur, Brad Clement trip report
      • just over 16 hrs 2007 just over 87 miles Kirk Christensen, Morris Arthur

Sucia Island to Orcas Island Crossing

Ski2Sea Full Kayak Course

Approximate course - run from bike leg handoff edge of parking lot by Zuanich community bld., pick up ski on grass, carry down to Zuanich dock and launch, paddle around outfall buoy, back to and around buoy near Glass Beach, paddle inside (on beach side) the red buoy near Boulevard Park, paddle longest leg south to bouy placed for race straight WNW out from Marine Park (guestimate this is about 200 yds offshore), paddle straight into MP where you land and run up to flat where bell normally would be rung (let's say step into parking lot for end of solo time trial)

  • From 2009 on (2022 top time not counted here because the final buoy setup was late and first finishers did not have to go around it)
    • Sean Rice 35:57 2013
    • Kenny Rice 38:28 2014
    • Zsolt Szadovszki 38:33 2013

Vancouver Island Circumnavigation

Whiskey Rock to Drydock

Whiskey Rock to Post Point

  • 2023 Wilson Reavley & Ana Swetish did run starting well upwind from Whiskey Rock to Post Point Buoy in less than 29 minutes (timing based on video time turning downwind to approx. video time when passing Post Point Buoy) Note that there probably was significant time counted before getting to Whiskey Rock and also Wilson is significantly outside of Post Point Bouy and turns sideways to start cutting in to shore before he passes the Buoy.
