How to train on dryland in a way that can benefit your paddling is wide open and possibly only limited by your imagination.
Pay particular attention to concept of the failure point of an exercise being when proper posture and form is lost! (as in keeping your back straight, etc.) - this is important both for getting the most out of an exercise and avoiding injury.
Just as cross training in different water sports can be beneficial for working on areas of weakness in fitness and coping with boredom from too much repetition and similarity of workout - cross training with dryland sports can provide similar benefit as well as helping to maintain/improve general aerobic and strength levels during winters in some locales that are not friendly to on water paddling.
