Just for kicks, have you tried gorilla tape? Im surprised how durable it is and still “grippy”.

I have, and the glue sheds when it gets hot. Big mess.

I use bicycle handle bar tape and it usually last 2 years.

Strange, the gorilla black duct style tape I'm using has been on over 2 yrs and is still working great.

When you look at paddlers hands, they show callus different from each other. One old story is about a guy who would grab your hands and look for the callus there at the inside base of your thumb. That would tell how much you paddled. But I've never developed the big lump there like some. I don't like anything on the shaft. Sometimes get a blister on the palm side of my fingers, but that is nothing. The only downside is when I get some oil or Vaseline or something on my hands. That sucks.

I’ve worn thin paddling gloves (like bike gloves) for 30 years and don’t get blisters or calluses. Still have the thumb horn though.
