BC Lakes

Take your pick of many of the long, north-south lakes when the wind lines up with the lake direction north or south. Just make sure you are prepared for the most of the year cold water. The scenery will often be spectacular.

Bay of Fundy

Do your own diligence on what conditions are safe/paddling friendly if at all for your skill level! Tidal changes here are very strong with vastly varying conditions for paddling the tide races. The strong currents and lack of large population centres means there is limited access to hospitals or Coast Guard on-water resources. About Safety

Tidal Races

  • Gull Rock Ledges - Brier Island southern tip, there are shallow rock shelves that the changing tide builds waves on.

Tidal Bores

  • Shubenacadie (“Shubie”) River - tidal bore waves and rapids. Starting in Maitland - a few km run past the bridge to Green Creek. The video below has more wave surfing characteristics of a tidal race or standing river waves than typical tidal bores that move fairly uniformly upriver. So maybe this demonstrates something more along the lines of rapids that form due to interaction between river current and tide rather than strickly just a tidal bore??
