 +I will second that recommendation ​from Dennis. ​ Three mm boots don't keep my feet warm in January and February, even with socks  I wear those 7 mm Patagucci booties with no socks, anytime, and my feet stay warm.  An added bonus is that you get twice the workout...once when you're paddling and again in your car, truck or van when you try to take those booties off.  It's worth it though.

 No sock needed. I use the 5mm in winter and 2 or 3 mm the rest of the year. I didn’t think I would like the split toe but it turns out it is better for me.\\ No sock needed. -I have gone threw two parts of NRS freestyle booties. They are nice but I never found them that warm and the cuff died on them quickly making them I bit wet. They aren’t long enough to stay under a wetsuit or Drysuit cuffs so thy can get more water exchange than I want. . I switched to patagonia R4 socks last year to try and get better feel on the peddles and love them. They might not last as long but I can repair the bottom with Aquaseal and extend there life a lot.  They are MUCH warmer that the freestyles and I love the feel on the peddles. Plus they are much dryer. If you are climbing over a lot of rocks then the freestyles are better but in every other way I like the R4's+I have gone threw two parts of NRS freestyle booties.  I believe these are both made by the same company. Sealskinz? or the same manufacturer as Sealskinz. My last pair (Dexshell) has held up well (1.5 yrs) and are still totally waterproof. Not cheap but socks that are not really waterproof are pretty worthless. Waterproof socks do not keep the water from going in at their tops if you submerge them - in my experience with the ones I use, though wetsuit leg ends over the sock tops can slow infiltration down.
