For family/weather reasons, we like Kihei.  Lahaina is our second choice.\\

It's on some rocks, oceanfront:  access to good snorkeling, beginner surfing, nice beach, boogey-boarding, decent decent boat access, and restaurants.... without loading up a car.  The North Shore (windsports and downwind paddling) is accessible with a 30 minute drive.

BTW. We'll be on Maui that week :)  Dec.14-24.  We'll be staying just 100 yards S of Punahoa. (That's a great condo unit too, on the same set of rocks.)\\
