====== Bellingham Bay Rough Water 2022 ====== ===== Pre-Race ===== **Rough Water Race Guide** \\ **Kevin Olney** Mar 17 #31244 Thanks to everyone who has registered so far! The wind forecast is looking promising at the moment. SSW winds should set up nicely for the classic course. Our awesome crew of cooks are busy in the kitchen preparing six different varieties of soups and chilis. There will be cookies too!! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, KO **allipp@…**Mar 18 #31245 Kevin, is there a backup course if it turns real westerly, as newer forecasts are showing? Maybe CBC, Post Point red can, Taylor dock, rinse, repeat? 4 laps for long course, 2 for short.\\ **Kevin ****Olney **Mar 18 #31246 Definitely keeping an eye on the changing forecast. I’ll post an alternative course option tonight but the final call will be made in the morning. We will try and maximize the downwind section as much as possible. Stay tuned! **David ****Hooper **Mar 18 #31247 If we do a Le Mans start at Squalicum beach about 11 am, paddling SE for ~1 hr, then turn and paddle NE and finish at Glass Beach, we might be able to go downwind the whole way. **David ****Hooper **Mar 18 #31253 Or, since forecast has changed again, how about 2 laps around the Salhaem buoy? 11.2 miles…. **Kevin Olney** Mar 18 #31254 As of 10:00 Friday evening we are seeing a definite shift to west winds at some point in the morning tomorrow. Nothing extreme though. We will most likely keep the regular course, unless conditions in the morning force a change. Please attend the 9:30 safety meeting. Final course decisions will be announced at that time. Get some good sleep and stay hydrated! See you in the AM, KO **allipp@…** Mar 19 #31255 Maybe just do away with the outfall buoy and head straight to the Cornwall beach buoy? **Reivers ****Dustin **Mar 19 #31256\\ jeeze, guys. Leave Race Director alone. You should try it sometime. Be a race director.\\ quityerbitchen. ===== Post Race ===== **Larry ****Bussinger **Mar 19 #31257 Good job Race Team. Results are up: [[https://pacificmultisports.com/results/brwresults2022/|https://pacificmultisports.com/results/brwresults2022/]]\\ Larry, Paul C has your container **Dean Bumstead** Mar 19 #31262 Thanks for putting on a great race today, Kevin, Peter and all those who helped out. Not to stir up a sticky subject but barnacles and crusty paddlers are one in the same, whereas (with no disrespect to rowers), rowers are much more elegant….kind of like a starfish. With that in mind, I think the Barnacle Trophy should be reserved for paddlers, single or double blade and only if they take naps. Dean **BBRWR - first liar** **Reivers ****Dustin **Mar 19 #31265 \\ Dangit, results already published. From my perspective just about goldilocks conditions. I had a rough start. And a troubled childhood. But maybe both are my own fault. But after that first turn there really were some rides. On the first return lap it didn't seem like as harsh against the wind as usual. Second lap still had good runs on the long stretch. But when my odometer hit 8 miles there was no giddyup in my gitalong. I got passed by several on the last pull up to the finish. Probably for the best. In the event that I had won the Barnacle trophy I had prepared a short speech of 20 or 30 minutes. But I'm pretty sure that some of the other barnacles had brought some rotten fruit and stuff to throw. And besides that there's all this b.s. about a whale. I was in my car changing. Those pictures could be photoshopped. **BBRWR 2022 photos are now online** \\ **Michael ****Lampi **Mar 20 #31270 A bunch of photos are now online at the Sound Rowers web site: http://www.soundrowers.org/racePhotos/2022/BBRWR/index.html
